Curb Appeal

Monday, September 21st, 2009

The trash in the picture below has been waiting to be picked up for close to three weeks. The house in the picture is on North 3rd – the main corridor from the industrial park, I-35, CAC and the Mayborn Center into downtown area. I am fairly confident that this mess appeared on or before September 2. I know for a fact it was there on the 3rd – this was when I made my first note about it. The bulk pick up day for this house was supposed to be on September 8th. This Tuesday, September 22, is the next pick up day. According to the plan approved by the Council (4 of the 5 members) the maximum amount of time garbage is supposed to sit in a front yard is nine days. So what happened here? I know, I know…. I could’ve called it in myself and gotten it picked up a long ago. But I was curious how long it would sit. Is this really the kind of curb appeal we want to be known for?

PLEASE NOTE: Tuesday, 9:45 pm              I am having to re-upload the video referenced below. I think the North Koreans somehow deleted it in an act of unprovoked aggression on our great City.  Please check back in the morning.

I am hopeful that the residents of the North side, especially the Historic District, will take a few minutes to view my first homemade video. The video lacks any polish what-so-ever, but I think it does a good job of making people aware of a situation that needs to be addressed by the Council.   Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors so they too can watch and enjoy the video in all of graphic splendor. My hope is that residents will call or email the other Council members and let them know that you are in agreement with me. Please don’t call them if you disagree with me. JUST KIDDING!

P.S. I am aware that the house number I give in the audio does not match the number on the screen.  The number on the screen is correct. I have not figured out how to edit these things yet and I did not have time to re-record.

Good Corporate Citizen

My wife and I are heading up the Temple Historic District’s Bloomin 5K and Fun run.  I can honesty say that this has been a lot more work than I imagined, especially for my wife.  One of Shana’s jobs was to find stuff to put in the runner’s goody bags. On a lark she asked one of her fellow Junior Leaguers that works at McLanes to see if she could get some sunflower seeds and beef jerky donated.  She triumphantly called me to inform me that McLanes was “on board”.  When she went to pick up the goods she was met by a nice guy named Mike who helped her load…. and load…. and load… and load all kinds of great stuff into her Expedition.  By the time they were done loading her truck was completely filled.  What a pleasant surprise! Thanks McLanes!
